What equipment do you use?
We use a mix of digital with a little bit of film. We shoot mostly digital, but when the lighting allows,we love to shoot a few rolls of film during portraits. Film is so organic and it’s a great medium when natural sunlight is present. We shoot medium format and 35mm.
We are Canon shooters and like to use primes which are fast lenses that shoot great in low light (and all kinds of light). When necessary we use Canon 600EX-RT flashes both on camera and off camera depending on our goal.
For editing I use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and the Nik Software Collection on Apple computers.
As you can see we have many cameras, lenses, and flashes, so we always have “back-up” equipment on hand.
Will we get any black and white photos?
Definitely. I provide about 15% of your photos in black & white. When processing the photos I will change an image to black and white when I feel it enhances the image. I love black and white, there is just so much feeling behind it….but I also love color! So you get a mix.
Our parents want some more formal, traditional group photos, is that cool?
Completely cool. Absolutely, we generally always do portraits and more formal group photos. I just don’t always include them on the blog.
What is the booking process?
I use a great online resource for photographers called ShootQ and it’s great because it makes everything super easy (and green because we aren’t pushing papers around). After we discuss the details of your wedding, and what your needs are I create an electronic proposal for you. You receive a link via email, click on the link and you can go ahead with signing the contract and making your deposit. That’s it, you booked me!
A 30% deposit is due at the time of booking and is payable with credit card or personal check. The balance is due one month prior to the wedding day.
When should I book you?
My clients generally book me anywhere from 6 to 12 months prior to their wedding date. However, there are some clients that book me up to 18 months prior to their wedding date. It’s your call, but unfortunately I can’t hold dates open. I hate when people get disappointed, so if you know you want to book me, pull the trigger : )
How soon after the wedding will I receive my photographs?
Images will be posted to a password protected online gallery, and sent to you on DVD 6 to 8 weeks after your wedding date. I always aim for 6 weeks though!
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes I do and every photographer should! Many venues actually require photographers to have liability insurance. If your venue asks for my certificate of insurance, just let me know. I am covered by The Hartford.
Are you willing to travel for my wedding?
I LOVE to travel, so the answer to this one is YES indeed I am willing to travel! Additional fees depend on the location. Once I know the details, I will present you with a quote for my travel expenses. My family lives in northern New Jersey, Manhattan, and the Hudson Valley Area of New York, so those are freebies because it gives us an excuse to visit!
Do you photograph gay weddings, or do you mostly do straight weddings?
All weddings are created equal to me. They are about love and wanting to spend the rest of your life with that one person, your best friend. I have photographed many, many straight weddings, and many, many gay weddings. I love all weddings…but just happened to be gay myself. So yeah, I am cool with same-sex weddings!
